The last day of the play was Halloween, 2009. And I took pictures, driving my poor mom, who had driven up from PHX, to watch, crazy by snapping photos (flash off) during the performance. But, now she wants the pictures, so I'm OK. :)
Sam played a 12 year old character and she had a ball. The high school kids were great with her.

What with Sam as busy with the play, we just didn't have time to do Halloween this year. Man, we've been busy. Busy. Busier than that. So, Sam decided to revisit an old costume we'd had made for her when she was about 3-4 years old. She went as a Harpy. Anyway...I did Sam's makeup and just still had the itch, so I did myself. :) I went as a teacher. :) Click to enlarge.

Tony, the fellow who owns that dog that I painted, did as I requested. I'd asked him to please take a picture of the dog next to the portrait. He washed his dog and sent me four pictures. I like these the best. Tony says:
Notice he's changed color in the years since we took the pictures you painted him from. That's not dirt on his snout :D He's 11 now.
BTW He is "Ecco domani Fibonacci's Number, aka Reuben"

So Jorge had looked into the trail system of the White Mountains and had suggested that we go check out the parking at Panorama Trail head, to see if we could haul the trailer there and ride ponies while he rode his bike on the trails. That was Saturday. Sunday we were back, and indeed, hauled Red and Whirlwind up, and Jorge had his bike. I'd insisted that Jorge have his cell phone, and I brought mine. This becomes important later.

Every year, Sam's hula troop does a couple dances. One is the Red, White and Blueau at the local pool, and they dance there, at night. The other is, of course, the Hula float in the city parade.

We went fishing yesterday. Sam caught the first fish, tiny. Jorge caught the other fish. Someone else gave us a third fish, so I cleaned two fish. Throw back the small ones. :)

I bought a bunch of hay, which required that I clean my barn out, to store the bunch of hay. That was the original plan, anyway. The current plan is to move the haybarn, bring in several storage containers, contract someone to roof them, and convert the current hay barn to a greenhouse. Anyway. Sam was helping, and neighbor dog Mia, who is kind of the Time Share Dog, came over to help clear out rodents from the barn, while Sam and I cleaned. Mia loves to come 'hunt' over here, because Sam will team up with her... Click on pictures to enlarge.

- Father's Day Present - Downhill Mountain Biking

Jorge wanted to go downhill mountain biking, for his father's day present.
Things I have learned today:- Downhill mountain bikers are insane.
- Downhill mountain bikers' judgement should not be trusted. See #1. If a downhill mountain biker says that a trail is 'easy', and 'you'll like it', understand that they wear body armor and full head helmets with face guards while they careen down said 'easy', 'likable' trail.
- The word 'technical', in a downhill mountain biker's vocabulary loosely translates to 'you'll need to be replacing bike parts, if not body parts, and good luck'.
- Downhill mountain bikers are very good about helping you get back up again after you've fallen. Nice, crazy people.
- 15 year old rigid frame mountain bikes, with cantilever (not disc) brakes are really not the sort of equipment that anyone should ride down a mountain, on a downhill mountain biker trail. It's great on a nice paved road. Jorge and Sam have much newer bikes with disc brakes and front shocks.

Max the pekin duck loves his Patty the Ameracauna chick, but we figured when we get our half-year pond, that Max would want another duck-friend to play with. After calling just about every feedstore in central and north-eastern Arizona, I located a fellow with ducks near the age of Max. We drove to Globe today, ate at Irene's (mmmmmn!) and went and bought Jack. Sam has decided that Jack is her duck. Jack doesn't seem to mind. Jack is supposed to be a khaki campbell, but the guy also had runner ducks there... Maybe. Khaki's are bred from runners and rueon ducks...So maybe he's half runner, genetically. Sam's friend came over for a sleepover and I promised to take them riding. It was a really windy day, but we did fine, and Shaina fell in love with the donkey.

This is Max the duck. Max the duck does not like to be left alone. He has imprinted on us, and as the Moms, we should have Max with us constantly. He's the only one who hatched. I don't have much hope for the remaining six eggs, but I'll leave them in there another day.

The camera was being wacky today, so the first several bullrider pictures were in black and white, but then I noticed that and changed. Met a very nice professional photographer who took pity on me - such a nice camera and no idea how to use it -- and he offered to give me some tips sometime.
